On the trails

This is my online home, where I occasionally write about the stuff that interests me. While not the only stuff that interests me, in general, that stuff is listed below.

A user experience professional

At their core, I believe that good user experiences are all about well-designed interactions. Good design of any kind helps people solve problems, communicate, share and learn. I am more interested in the connections and interactions than in the technology itself. To that end, in my work, I focus on making web and interactive things work as well as I can for their end-users. Presently, I do those things in an educational setting.

A recreational athlete

I do a fair bit of running and cycling. At 46, I’d call myself a decent front-of-midpack runner and a pretty average cyclist. I still think of myself primarily as a runner and view the cycling as a good way to keep the cardio strong, since I can’t always run as much or as hard as I want to. The will is certainly there, but my cranky knee now sometimes puts up the occasional training and racing roadblock.

An animal lover

I’m an unapologetic plant-based eater and animal advocate. While I believe that plant-based diets are better for your personal health, I’m also fully aware that diets including meat can be healthy. What tips the scale for me are the other ways in which a plant-based diet offers ethical, environmental and personal health benefits. I know these can be controversial issues and I’m always up for a good, but respectful, debate.
